Here’s how you will transition to your new account

Our new everyday chequing accounts provide great features and value – like free Interac e-Transfers® and unlimited transactions, plus there are more to choose from and a brand new option for students.

On February 6, FirstOntario Members who have our Be FREE, Be FREE and More and Be FREE and More Seniors chequing accounts will be moved to our new everyday accounts. 

Keep reading to see what account you will move to. If you prefer a different account or would like to start using your new account sooner, please contact us and we’ll be happy to make that change for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

​I like my current account, can I keep it?

FirstOntario’s new everyday accounts are designed to offer more value by providing features and benefits that are more widely used. If you like your current account, you’ll like our new ones even more!

In early 2021, all existing Be FREE chequing accounts will be switched to one of our new everyday accounts. Members who would like to switch sooner can do so by contacting their branch or our Member Solutions Centre. Note, your account number, nicknames on your account and any pre-authorized debits or credits will not change.

​I don’t use INTERAC e- Transfers? Why are you changing my account?

Interac e-Transfers are becoming a more common method of moving funds – this is why we’re offering them for free in all of our accounts. If you don’t use them, you may want to try them out. Our Everyday Convenience Account has no monthly fee but still gives you the option to use two free Interac e-Transfers each month. You still get access to unlimited free debits such as bill payments, preauthorized debits and cash withdrawals. You also have free access to online and mobile banking, Deposit Anywhere™, eStatements and our Personal Assisted Teller machines

​I have cheques from my current chequing account.  Will they still work with my new everyday account?

After your Be FREE account has been switched to one of our new everyday accounts, any unused cheques you have from your Be FREE account will continue to work because your account number will not change. If you would like to switch to a new everyday account sooner, give us a call and we’ll be happy to take care of that for you.  

I just sent my first INTERAC e-Transfer after switching to the Everyday Convenience Account and I was charged a fee. My first two INTERAC e-Transfers each month are supposed to be free. Why was I charged?

With the Everyday Convenience Account, the first two Interac e-Transfers each month are free. The fee for these two transactions will appear in your account immediately after you send an Interac e-Transfer but they will be reversed by the end of the day.

​After the transition, how will I know what account I have been moved to?

In online and mobile banking, your new account name will appear if you do not currently use a nickname for your accounts. If you do use a nickname, you will not see the name change in your account. Beginning in February, your new account name(s) will appear on your monthly statements.
