Irene Lowell has been a Director of FirstOntario Credit Union for the past 12 years and is a proud member of Unifor Local 199 where she was a past Chairperson for the Women’s Committee. Irene has retired from General Motors, where she was an employee for 28 years.
A highly effective communicator in individual and group settings, Irene has conducted information forums and engaged in public speaking. Irene also brings with her over 10 years combined experience in providing community services including crisis intervention, initial intake, counselling assistance and goal planning
Irene holds a certificate as a volunteer for the Board of the Niagara Regional Sexual Assault Centre and a certificate as a Niagara Regional Victims Crisis Support worker.
Irene also expanded her education in labour studies at McMaster University. She was the labour liaison for the Niagara Regional Labour Council and labour liaison for the St. Catharines & District United Way. Irene also received a Community Service Worker Certificate from Trios College in 2008 and was a Candidate in the 2011 provincial election.
Committed to advocacy and empowerment, Irene is passionate about our membership and the future of our credit union. During her time on FirstOntario’s Board of Directors, Irene has graduated from the Credit Union Director Achievement (CUDA) program. She strongly believes in the values of FirstOntario and believes in the very valuable role a Director has to enhance FirstOntario’s continued success in the communities in which we serve.
