Phishing scams

Be on alert.

Phishing scams are common forms of identity theft when criminals try to gain illegal access to your private and personal information by disguising themselves as a legitimate company you may trust – like a financial institution. Here are some red flags you should be aware of.

Open Envelope

You don’t recognize the sender’s address.

Browser Window

The sender’s email comes from a domain that looks suspicious because its formatting is unusual or misspelled.

Address Book Unknown Contact

You don’t have a business relationship or any past communication with the sender.

Email Window with Magnifying Glass

The email is unexpected and unusual with a hyperlink and/or attachment.

Clock Hands with Circular Arrow

You received the email at an unusual time (i.e. 3 a.m.).

Pencil and Box with X

The email has bad spelling or grammar.
