Helping our Communities

Making a difference matters.

FirstOntario is more than just a financial institution

Community involvement is at the heart and soul of FirstOntario and you might notice that when you see us at different local events across all of our regions. Take a look at a few of the ways we're helping in your community.

The FirstOntario vision

To be first in our communities by being more than a financial institution.

We care about our community

Blue Wave volunteers power many of our student nutrition programs in all of our regions.

Strength in numbers

Almost half of FirstOntario staff are Blue Wave volunteers— that's more than 250 people.

The Blue Wave Volunteer Team

Blue Wave is a group of FirstOntario employees who volunteer in support of local community initiatives that are important to our Members.

The program was established in 2010 and since then, our employees have given more than 13,000 volunteer hours to the programs and events that they feel passionate about.

If you need volunteer assistance for a community event or initiative, please get in touch with us by completing an application.

Student Nutrition Programs

Healthy snacks and nutritious food play a vital role in the success of students at school and making sure this happens is a priority for us.

Over the past six plus years, FirstOntario has contributed almost $1.7 million dollars to date to student nutrition programs in all of our regions. Our Blue Wave volunteers have given hundreds of hours to help prepare and deliver these snacks to everyone who needs them at local elementary schools across our cities.

In 2019, we were able to help support more than 180 schools through six community partnerships across four different regions. Thank you to everyone who made all of this possible.

Affordable Housing

FirstOntario is proud to partner with organizations like Bethlehem Housing and Penn Terra to come up with a unique way to address the need of affordable housing. There are thousands of people across the province who do not have a safe and affordable place to live.

As a credit union, we believe in supporting our communities and being a good neighbour. The newly created space on Church Street in St. Catharines is one of the ways we could get involved and make a positive, lasting impact.

North Church Court building opens its doors to individuals and families offering a safe, supportive, and affordable place to call home

Do Some Good

See what FirstOntario and our Blue Wave crew are up to through Do Some Good, a platform where individuals, community organizations and businesses come together with a common goal- to promote volunteerism and make a difference.

Through Do Some Good, we’re able to share experiences both inside and outside the office. We aim to strengthen engagement with our staff and our communities by helping to support the causes they care about and share the stories that matter.
