Vice President of Wealth Management, Michael Butler oversees FirstOntario’s wealth management division. With over 35 years of senior executive experience in the private equity, renewable energy and financial services, he is known for executing growth strategies and building business capability.

Michael’s past achievements include co-founding one of Canada’s fastest-growing mutual fund companies, Northwest Mutual Funds, merging it with The Ethical Funds Company, building this into NEI Investments and leading the wealth division at another credit union.

He also co-founded the private equity firm, Genesis Capital, which was later developed into Focused Energy Solutions Canada, a company recognized within the Golden Horseshoe as a leader in energy conservation.

Michael is an experienced board director, having chaired two independent review committees. He has been a board member and an audit committee member for both a non-profit and publicly listed company, as well as for multiple private companies and associations.

He is an avid skier and sports enthusiast. Married to his long-time love, Janet. They have two children together.
