Kelly McGiffin has over 40 years of leadership experience at the national, provincial and local levels of Canada’s credit union system. Kelly was appointed CEO in November 2007 and since taking the helm, FirstOntario has achieved unprecedented growth and profit. Through his leadership, FirstOntario has strengthened its brand as a community leader and invested in a cultural transformation that has inspired more than 550 employees.
A passionate believer of co-operative values, Kelly has led three different credit unions as CEO, and sat on several boards including Central One Credit Union, the Canadian Credit Union Association, the Coaching Association of Canada and the Co-operative Development Foundation. He continues to advocate on behalf of the credit union system having recently returned from the World Credit Union Conference in Singapore.
Kelly’s credit union career began as a lender and he worked his way up through eight different organizations, gaining accreditation in Human Resources and Marketing in the process; and recently graduating from the Directors College with his Director’s designation through McMaster University’s DeGroote Business program.
Kelly is also an accomplished player and coach in men’s softball and baseball and has sat on the boards of Softball BC and the Fergie Jenkins Foundation. He has played or coached in eight National Championships, three Canada Games, fourteen World Championships and was a member of the Canadian Gold Medal team in the 2003 Pan Am Games.
